Quote

Consent culture: A social structure focusing on increasing the opportunities for people to opt in (or opt out) of situations. Consent culture is about moving toward centering consent in interactions, rather than avoiding violation. It’s about treating autonomy as sacrosanct and boundaries as valuable information to be respected
— Kitty Stryker

Useful Fact

Healthdirect has launched a new helpline - Multicultural Health Connect - the first national helpline to help people in multicultural communities get health information and advice. The helpline is free and confidential, and run by workers with multicultural backgrounds.

In-language help is available by calling 1800 186 815 (MON-FRI 11AM – 7PM AEDT), where callers speak with a trained worker who understands and respects their culture, needs and concerns, either in the preferred language of the caller or with the help of an interpreter.

Campaign

The Ask for Health website provides trusted health information for young people under 25.

Ask for Health is designed to help you to better understand key health topic areas for young people and the health care system in NSW.  It aims to help you have the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to make decisions in everyday life concerning your health care.

Our vision is for all young people in NSW to have greater confidence in navigating the health system and their health by being equipped with the appropriate tools, education, and resources. We aim to see a health system which is inclusive of all young people and communities, that acknowledges and respects their various needs, leading to positive experiences with the health system.

Key Event

WorldPride was in full swing in Sydney earlier this year and it was an opportunity to highlight the importance of positive experiences of healthcare for the LGBTQI+ community.

Those positive experiences are badly needed as research shows that bad healthcare experiences can be a risk factor for suicidality, but good experiences are very much protective of mental health.

“We found that having affirming experiences within health and medical settings was a strong protective factor,” Teddy Cook, Director of Community Health at ACON, told TMR’s Tea Room podcast.

“That's an important call to action for GPs. Affirming someone within your practice is a strong protective factor against suicidality and suicide attempts, which is pretty motivating.”

Who are

As more and more people use abortion pills, we know that there will be times when people may not have the in-person support they deserve before, during, or after their abortions.

That’s why Abortions Welcome was created to accompany people on their abortion journey, no matter where they are in the process.

They also know that many people who have abortions are people of faith, and it can be hard to find affirming and compassionate spiritual resources online in a sea of religious anti-abortion extremism. Their dream is for this site to be a resting place, a sacred space of comfort and care for people on their abortion journeys.

Abortions Welcome is a pro-choice spiritual companion for use before, during, and after abortion. Find meditations, rituals, stories, and scripture curated for different parts of the abortion process.

What is love? A question most of us asked ourselves at least once in our lifetime…

Anđela and Davor, a newly married couple from Croatia, decided to turn their honeymoon into a year-long exploration of possible answers to this question.

On this journey, they talked to more than 200 people in 30 countries on 6 continents. And after coming home, they transformed this inspiring experience into a documentary and a book showing all the complexity of love in the 21st century.
